Stone Floor Surface Wet Mopping

Manual Scrubbing Stone Floor Surfaces

PRODUCTS:

Marbalex® (Cleans all stone floors)
Reason: To emulsify surface soils and prevent residue build-up with the application of an SCI pH7 balanced stone cleaner. The SCI cleaners compliment the delicate structure of stone and are ASTM approved for slip resistance.

PROCEDURES:

Smooth Surfaces:

Dilute the SCI chemical accordingly with warm water.
Mop the solution onto the surface and allow it to dry. (Rinsing is not necessary)

-Bucket solution must be changed a minimal of every 2,000 square feet to prevent the reapplication of sediment to the stone surface.

-High traffic areas such as entrances requires a bucket change every 1,000 square feet due to the heavy buildup of sediment in these areas.
Ceramic Tile:

Same procedures as above but use CERAMICLEAN.
MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS:

Mops should be changed every 5,000 square feet.
Food court area should be mopped at least three times a day to prevent oily surface soils from being walked on to other areas. Change the bucket solution every 1,000-2,000 square feet.
On rain and snow days, mop three times a day to neutralize acid rain residue.
(Acid rain and ice melt residues will harm stone)
Do not use cotton mops because they release cotton oil on the surface which creates a film.
Do not use metal framed mop handles because their edges will scratch the surface.
Use a clean mop every day.
Rinse the buckets daily.
Continuously inspect the floors for liquid spills and pick them up immediately to prevent staining and liquid penetration into the stone.
Mops and mop solution must be changed continuously. If they are not, dirty solution will be reapplied to the surface which will cause dark staining to occur.

PRODUCTS:

Marbalex® (Cleans all stone floors)
Stone Quest® (Intensive Stone, Tile & Grout Cleaner, No-Acid)
Ceramiclean® (Tile & Grout Cleaner, Non-Acidic)
PROCEDURES:

Smooth Surfaces: (Granite, Marble, Ceramic, Terra Cotta, Terrazzo, Agglomerate)

Dust mop area.
Dilute MARBALEX in a clean bucket at two ounces per one gallon of warm water.
Generously apply MARBALEX with a synthetic dust mop and let it set for a minimum of two minutes.
Install a soft bristled brush to the bottom of the machine.
Use a sideward (left to right) scrubbing motion with one pass in each direction. (Lower=Left/Raise=Right)
Immediately extract the solution with a wet/dry vacuum to prevent the soils from settling back onto the surface.
Damp mop with MARBALEX using a clean bucket and mop.
Proceed with the SCI daily maintenance procedures.
Heavy Soil Build Up:

Mix STONE QUEST at four to six ounces to one gallon of warm water.
Follow the same procedures as above.
Rinse thoroughly with MARBALEX and proceed with routine maintenance procedures.
Rough Surface: (Flamed Stone, Concrete)

Follow the above procedures with MARBALEX and increase the dilution ratio by six ounces using a soft bristled brush.
If this application does not perform, apply STONE QUEST mixing it with half water.
Let it set for three minutes.
Scrub the surface with aa soft bristled brush.
Pick up solution immediately with a wet/dry vacuum.
Rinse with MARBALEX if any streaks remain and proceed with daily maintenance procedures.
Grout Cleaning:

Dilute CERAMICLEAN at ten ounces per one gallon of water.
Mop it on to the surface and let it set for three minutes.
Scrub the grout with a soft bristled brush.
Pick up the solution with a wet/dry vacuum.
Rinse with MARBALEX if necessary.

*If the soil buildup has penetrated deeply inside the stone or grout, apply a poultice and follow the recommended procedures on the label.
RECOMMENDATIONS:

Immediately pick up the scrubbed solution with a wet/dry vacuum.
Never let the solution dry before extracting it up.
Be sure that the squeegee blades are always cleaned and wiped off after every use.
Use warm water to open the pores of the stone.
Do not flood the floor surface.
Always use clean mops, buckets, pads, and brushes.
Replace worn pads, mops, and brushes.
For softer stones, consult with an SCI Representative.
Scrubbing 1,000 square feet with a 175 RPM 17" buffer with separate pick-up, 1,000 Square Feet should be scrubbed in 31.20 minutes. (ISSA)

Rest Room Stone Surface Cleaning

Polishing Stone Vanity Tops & Walls

SURFACE TYPE: PRODUCT NEEDED:
Stone Countertops Counterrific™& International Stone Polish®
Stone Floor Counterrific™ or Marbalex®
Ceramic & Porcelain Tile Ceramiclean®
Grout Ceramiclean® & Grout Lock™
Stone Walls Counterrific™& International Stone Polish®
Sealing All Surfaces Stone Spray-N-Seal®

Reason: To clean and disinfect all types of stone from bacteria and germs without burning or etching the stone surface and to prevent biological staining from developing.

Summary: Most disinfectants that are used today contain alkalis, acids, and other ingredients that are detrimental to natural stone surfaces. These elements often cause adverse reactions to the natural minerals in stone, especially because disinfectants must set on the surface for a minimum of five minutes. In this short time frame, most disinfectants will begin to harm the stone after one application. Counterrific™ can be used everyday to disinfect and clean all rest room stone surfaces without harming the stone. Daily use of Counterrific will even prevent the growth of bacteria and mold on the stone.

PROCEDURES:

Spray Cleaning Stone Vanity Tops/Sinks/Showers/Walls:

Simply spray Counterrific on to the surface and let it stay wet for five minutes.
Wipe off with a clean and dry paper towel.
If any streaks appear, simply spray again and wipe off immediately.
RESTROOM GROUT:

Dust mop area with a clean dust mop.
Mop CERAMICLEAN on to the surface at six ounces per one gallon of warm water.
Let it set for two minutes.
Scrub the surface with a soft bristled brush.
Immediately extract the solution from the surface with a wet/dry vacuum.
Lightly mop rinse with CERAMICLEAN.
RECOMMENDATIONS:

Only use a soft cloth to wipe down vertical and horizontal stone surfaces.
Always use clean rayon Mops.
All rest room stone surfaces should be protected with Stone Spray-N-Seal® Penetrating Sealer to prevent the growth of mold and bacteria on the stone surface.
PRECAUTIONS:

Most rest room cleaners are either acidic or alkali chemicals that contain elements that are hazardous to stone.

PRODUCTS:

Marbacream® (Removes Glass Rings, Scratches & Dull Spots)
International Stone Polish® (Countertop & Table Polish)
Marbamist® (Cleans all stone countertops)
Granisol™ (Cleans & polishes stone, solid surface & quartz tops)
Reason:To remove scratches, glass rings, etch marks, and showerwall streaks from the stone surfaces and to repolish the stone's crystalline structure.

Summary: Stone countertops, tabletops, and vanity tops often become dull from spills of acidic drinks and personal hygiene products. Cleaning products not designed for use on natural stone even create problems by etching the stone surface. With scheduled polishing, these factors can be corrected by repolishing the stones crystalline structure with the SCI POLISHING POWDERS or MARBACREAM.

ADVANTAGES:

Natural polishing is the only safe method to polish natural stone.
It is a user friendly procedure.
PROCEDURES: (Always perform a small test patch before completing the whole area.)

Remove loose debris from the stone surface and spray clean with MARBAMIST.
Strip off any remaining topical coating.
Cover all wall coverings and carpeted areas.
Use a white felt pad on the hand machine or use a piece of a red buffing pad when polishing by hand.
Spray water onto the surface or add a few small drops of water to the worn area.
Shake the MARBACREAM until the product thickens and then apply a dab of MARBACREAM to the dull or damaged area. (Keep shaking the bottle after each use.)
With a piece of a red buffing pad or a clean and damp white terry cloth towel, begin buffing in a circular motion. (Red buffing pads will provide a better result due to its polishing nature.) *If using an SCI POLISHING POWDER, sprinkle the powder onto the water to create a paste.
(Only use one teaspoon of powder per small area.)
Begin buffing by hand in a circular motion for 30 seconds or use a hand machine at a low RPM keeping the surface moist at all times.
Remove the paste or cream with a squeegee before it dries to see if the desired polish has appeared. If not, push the slurry or cream back onto the surface and begin polishing again until the polish occurs.
(Buffing action may take thirty seconds to two minutes to create a shine or repair an etch.)
Rinse the surface with MARBAMIST to neutralize the residue.
Heavily worn and scratched surfaces must be smoothed out first using HONEX.
Protect the surface with an application of INTERNATIONAL STONE POLISH.
On Granite:

*For Polishing Granite Surfaces, Follow The Above Procedures Using An SCI Granite Powder.*

RECOMMENDATIONS:

If etches or surface scratches are more severe, use HONEX to smooth them before polishing.
If the shine does not appear as desired, repeat the above steps again using a heavier paste.
Do not buff the surface for more than three minutes.
Move the machine slowly and evenly, doing small areas at a time.
Protect all adjacent surfaces.
Always wear safety goggles.
Corners and angled areas can be worked by hand using the inside piece of a white pad.

PRODUCTS:

Stone Spray-N-Seal® (Stone & Grout Sealer, Water-based)
Grout Lock™ (Aerosol Grout Sealer)
Dust Mop
Reason: Penetrating sealers, also know as impregnators, protect the interior of the stone by penetrating through the surface and bonding to the inside of the stone. They act as a repellent to prevent contaminants from absorbing into the stone.

Summary: The most important part of stone is the interior. A penetrating sealer should be applied to protect the interior of the stone. Mineral surfaces are very porous and act like a sponge in the presence of moisture and fluids. Without it, liquids can be absorbed into the stone thus causing corrosion, staining, and discoloring.

ADVANTAGES:

Penetrating Sealer will increase the coefficient of friction thus creating a more slip resistant surface.
Allows the stone to breath and release water vapor transmission which prevents erosion.
Does not yellow.
Prevents the growth of organic staining (mold, mildew).
Stone Spray-N-Seal® is an excellent grout release because it prevents adhesion and penetration to the stone.
PROCEDURES:

Polished or Honed Surface:

Floor surface must be dust mopped to remove all grit and debris.
All topical coatings should be stripped off with STONE STRIPPER (Solvent based coatings should be removed with a solvent based stripper.)
Follow stripping with a deep cleaning with STONE QUEST to clean out the pores of the stone. Use a soft bristled brush with this procedure.
Surface must be rinsed with MARBALEX cleaner to reduce any alkali or acidic residue and to remove any surface soils.
Be sure that the surface is dry for at least twelve hours.
Apply the sealer using a new dust mop in a figure eight motion.
If excess remains on the surface after five minutes, buff off with an all white bonnet pad.
Always use a new bucket and wringer.
Apply yearly in high traffic areas.
*If there are no coatings on the surface, begin the procedures with a thorough dust mopping and a rinse with MARBALEX.
Rough or Textured Surface:

Apply STONE SPRAY-N-SEAL®.
Sweep off all of the grit and debris with a push broom.
Remove all topical coatings with STONE STRIPPER.
Deep clean using STONE QUEST with a soft bristled brush after stripping.
